Dispersion of virus-laden droplets in ventilated rooms: Effect of homemade facemasks

In December 2019, the SARS-CoV-2 virus emerged and rapidly spread throughout world. It causes respiratory disease COVID-19 via transmission of microbial pathogens within bio-aerosols during speaking, sneezing, coughing. Therefore, understanding bioaerosol dynamics is important for developing mitigation strategies against droplet-induced infections. Computer modelling, using Computational Fluid Dynamics, has become a useful tool in studying visualising atomised bio-droplets but effect cloth facemasks not been fully quantified. this study, simulations were carried out to quantify extent droplet transfer with without between pair ventilated rooms by mathematical model first time. A 600-?m pore facemask was used, representing porosity typical facemask. Using discrete phase model, transport ejected droplets tracked. The results show that cases, more than 96% all scenarios trapped recommended 2 m social distancing radius around human source. Correspondingly, only maximum 80% deposited no scenarios, >20% airborne transported second room. One-dimensional empirical correlations developed concentration as function distance from models decays exponentially source especially cases. study therefore reinforces importance face coverings lessening possibly infected transmit highly infectious diseases such COVID-19.
